OpenAI is said to have just submitted a secret IPO and is increasingly fiercely competing with Anthropic.
According to the Financial Times, OpenAI is said to be preparing to carry out the biggest reshuffle for ChatGPT since this chatbot was launched in 2022.
Instead of just a chat tool, ChatGPT is oriented to become a comprehensive AI platform, where users can program, create content, process work and use third-party applications in the same interface.
The first changes are expected to appear on both websites and mobile applications in the near future.
The focus of the upgrade is Codex, an AI programming platform that OpenAI is seeing as an important growth driver. The company is also said to be redesigning the ChatGPT interface to encourage users to use more AI programming tools, image creation, and partner applications.
In parallel, OpenAI continues to bet on AI agents capable of performing work for users instead of just answering questions. These systems are expected to be able to manage schedules, set up services or process multi-step processes.
OpenAI’s long-term goal is to build a personal AI assistant that can accompany users in work and daily life on many different devices.
Notably, the ChatGPT overhaul plan takes place in the context that OpenAI has just confirmed that it has submitted an application to register for initial public offering (IPO) in a secret form to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The company has not announced the specific listing time, but said that submitting the application helps OpenAI have more options to conduct IPOs in the future if it benefits the business.
This move comes just days after Anthropic, the company that developed the chatbot Claude, also submitted a secret IPO. This shows that the competition between the two leading AI companies in the world is heating up, not only in technology but also in the capital market.
Currently, ChatGPT is said to have reached about 900 million active users per week. Meanwhile, OpenAI is promoting products for businesses to find more stable revenue sources to meet the increasing AI operating costs.
Observers believe that turning ChatGPT into a “super AI application” could be an important step to help OpenAI convince investors before officially listing on the stock market.
If successful, ChatGPT can become the center of an AI ecosystem, where users not only chat but also work, create content and use many other services through a single platform.
