VMware and Google have announced preview of a new GCP plugin for VMware vRealize Orchestrator, and support for Google Cloud Platform (GCP) resources in vRealize Automation.
The vRealize Orchestrator is used to automate the other VMware products like vSphere virtualization platform and vCloud suite. The new GCP plugin for vRealize Orchestrator will provide customers a consistent management and governance experience across on-premises and GCP-based IT environments.
On the other hand, the vRealize Automation is a software platform that enables IT admins to build and manage hybrid clouds. It is also used to personalize IT infrastructure, provision and configure resources, as well as to automate application delivery and container management.
The support for GCP resources in vRealize Automation will allow customers to provision and consume Google Compute Engine Virtual Machines with vRealize Automation.
VMware mentioned in a blog post that the new Google Cloud plug-in will allow customers to start provisioning VMs and storage to GCP as well as publish blueprints that include Google Compute Engine VMs and storage buckets in self-service catalog.
“Many of our customers with hybrid cloud environments rely on VMware software on-premises. They want to simplify provisioning and enable end-user self-service,” wrote Shan Kulandaivel, Google Compute Engine product manager, in a separate post.
“At the same time, they also want to make sure they’re complying with IT policies and following IT best practices. As a result, many use VMware vRealize Automation, a platform for automated self-service provisioning and lifecycle management of IT infrastructure, and are looking for ways to leverage it in the cloud.”
The companies said that GCP plugin for vRealize will unlock new hybrid cloud scenarios by make it easier for enterprises to reach new regions like Finland, Mumbai and Singapore to address business needs worldwide. It will also save money by deploying VMs as Compute Engine Preemptible VM instances.
It uses the Compute Engine with Nvidia Tesla P100 GPUs to reduce the time taken to train machine learning models.
