U.S. President Trump launched an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that quickly gained attention for contradicting Trump. However, just one day after launch, the bot stopped answering certain political questions.
Agence France-Presse reported that on Tuesday, September 29, Trump launched an AI chatbot named America.gov, designed to simplify access to government information and federal services. The platform claims: “Whatever government service you need, start here.”

Despite being championed by Trump, this chatbot quickly began to contradict the president on controversial topics such as the 2020 presidential election and the January 6 Capitol riot the following year.
The Digital Democracy Institute of the Americas noted: "Preliminary analysis shows that America.gov typically provides answers based on government records that are well-documented, even when those records contradict statements made by Trump and his administration."
Trump insists he won the 2020 presidential election and accuses the election of fraud. However, America.gov stated outright on its first day online: "Official federal assessments following the 2020 election found no fraud sufficient to alter the outcome."
Democrats immediately spread the word. California Senator Adam Schiff posted on X: “Finally, a straightforward answer from within the Trump administration.”
Unexpectedly, America.gov no longer answered the same question the next day, instead stating, “We do not provide political commentary or analysis of past elections.”
It is unclear whether the Trump administration adjusted settings to prevent chatbots from contradicting the president’s statements. The White House did not immediately comment.
Meanwhile, America.gov continued to issue counterresponses to some of Trump’s statements. When asked about Trump’s claim that “the U.S. experienced the worst inflation in history during former President Biden’s term,” it cited official data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to refute it.
