Red Hat has introduced Red Hat Developer Lightspeed, a generative AI portfolio integrated into its developer tools to support application modernisation and cloud-native services development.
Red Hat Developer Lightspeed is aimed at providing developers with intelligent, context-aware assistance directly in their workflow. The solution is designed to reduce the amount of time spent switching between tasks and tools, improving productivity and aiding in both coding and non-coding activities throughout the software development lifecycle.
Key features
The new offering integrates with both Red Hat Developer Hub and the migration toolkit for applications, providing varying AI-powered functionalities. In Red Hat Developer Hub, Developer Lightspeed acts as a virtual assistant to aid developers with non-coding work. Through a chat-based interface within the console, the tool assists with exploring application designs, drafting technical documentation, generating test plans, and offering troubleshooting support.
The AI within the hub is designed to enable a “bring your own model” approach. This allows development teams to use their preferred public or private large language models, making it possible to tailor performance, cost, and privacy settings according to organisational policies.
For coding tasks, Red Hat Developer Lightspeed is also available as an extension within the migration toolkit for applications, which automates source code refactoring processes directly in developers’ integrated development environments. This assistant is engineered to recognise migration challenges and offer contextually relevant suggestions, learning from each completed migration to refine its solution recommendations for future projects.
MTA 8 release and automation
The newly released version 8 of the migration toolkit for applications introduces automation for replatforming workloads onto Red Hat OpenShift. The first supported workflow focuses on migrations from Cloud Foundry to OpenShift. By automating the generation of deployment artifacts, MTA 8 aims to reduce manual intervention and human error, potentially increasing the return on investment for organisations engaging in application modernisation.
