OpenAI, SKT offer premium ChatGPT – Mobile World Live

OpenAI selected SK Telecom (SKT) as its exclusive telecoms partner in South Korea, where it opened a local office last week.
The pair launched a promotion offering two free months of ChatGPT Plus with a one-month subscription. The premium edition of OpenAI’s chatbot delivers faster responses and priority access to new features and improvements, and the offer is available to users who have not accessed the service for more than three months.
SKT stated it plans to explore various collaborations with OpenAI.

Lee Jae-shin, the head of SKT’s AI Growth Strategy Division, said it would expand its “customer-centred AI ecosystem by strengthening global cooperation and self-reliance”.
The companies jointly hosted a global AI hackathon in 2023.
Earlier this year, SKT joined the MIT GenAI Impact Consortium as a founding member, along with OpenAI, The Coca-Cola Company, Tata Group, Analog Devices and TWG Global.
SKT has made significant investment in AI initiatives. In June 2024 it injected $10 million into US-based generative AI search engine start-up Perplexity as it moved to improve its personal assistant agent.
