NJ Transit has unveiled a new website for better access to its most commonly used functions, such as its trip planner.
The simpler design, which debuted at njtransit.com on Sept. 1, is optimized for mobile devices. It prominently displays passenger information, like service alerts, and other important travel details, said a statement by NJ Transit. The website features a clearer presentation of bus, light rail and rail schedules, and enhanced text clarity and contrast.
The website now offers an AI-powered chatbot, called Navvie, which is available 24/7 for trip-planning support, NJ Transit said.
“Our redesigned website puts customers first, while Navvie, our first digital assistant, gives customers a smarter, more convenient way to plan trips and get travel information,” said Kris Kolluri, the chief executive officer and president of NJ Transit.
“These improvements reflect our commitment, and Governor Sherrill’s commitment, to deliver a modern, intuitive transit experience for all New Jerseyans,” he added.
NJ Transit is the third-largest public transportation system in the nation, with 19,000 bus stops, 62 light rail stations and 165 rail stations in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia.
The website changes were part of a rapid action plan for NJ Transit that was spelled out in an executive order issued by Gov. Mikie Sherrill in March.

The directive required the agency to upgrade its digital infrastructure. It also asked the NJ Transit commissioner to deliver cleaner and safer facilities and to provide more dependable service.
The NJ Transit mobile app will also be improved on Sept. 9, based on customer feedback received since its last major overhaul in May.
NJ Transit said Navvie, the website chatbot, may be added to the mobile app by the end of the year.
