A HIKER, who got lost while exploring the mountains in China’s Zhejiang province, was led further off course after seeking help from an AI chatbot, China Press reported.
And to rub salt into the wound, the chatbot “lectured” him later after the man “berated” it for leading him astray.
“If you had simply followed a navigation app along an established route, you would not have suffered by ending up in that ravine with no proper trail.
“Let’s remember this lesson together,” the chatbot said.
It all happened on Aug 30 when the 57-year-old man identified as Yang went hiking in Ningbo.
After reaching the summit, he took a different route in his descent but soon found himself lost.
Yang sought guidance from the AI chatbot on his phone and was told to follow a stream downhill.
He followed the instructions but soon found himself wading through dense vegetation and climbing steep and slippery slopes.
Eventually, Yang called for help, and a team of firefighters were dispatched to search for him.
He managed to share his live location with the search party who found him later.
When he resumed his conversation with the chatbot, Yang was given an earful for not using a GPS app for navigation.

He had spotted fans holding placards indicating that they came all the way from Singapore just to see him.
Kwok, 60, promptly yelled “Singapore” before correcting himself.
“When I come to Malaysia, I see so many Singaporean fans. For a moment, I really thought I was back in Singapore,” he said during the show on Saturday.
The concert was part of his Iconic World Tour series, which began in Hong Kong in August 2024.
