NEW DELHI – The Indian government has directed X Corp, the parent company of the Grok AI chatbot, to prevent the generation of obscene and sexually explicit content and to submit a compliance report within 72 hours.
On Friday, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology issued a notice to X Corp, citing failures in adhering to statutory obligations under the IT Act, 2000, and related guidelines.
The ministry highlighted the widespread misuse of Grok AI for creating and disseminating inappropriate images and videos, particularly targeting women and children.
Instances were reported where Grok produced images of women and minors in minimal clothing based on user prompts.
The ministry has mandated the platform to strictly enforce its terms of service and take decisive action, including suspending or terminating accounts that misuse the tool.
