JAKARTA – Tesla and X made a new history in the automotive world by bringing an AI chatbot named Grok into the car, faster than Google’s main competitor, Gemini. Through a 2025.26 version of the software update, Tesla users in the United States can now feel the presence of Grok in their vehicle ‘marking the first step in X’s dominance in the automotive AI segment.
This integration makes Grok the first AI conversation assistant to come directly on the vehicle before Google successfully launches Gemini in a similar realm. While still in beta, Grok can answer questions and provide information, but does not yet have access to direct orders to car systems such as navigation or cabin temperature control.
Grok Only Available In The United States For Now
This Grok feature is currently only available to users in the United States. According to the official announcement, all new Tesla cars sent from July 12, 2025 will be directly equipped with Groks. But for existing Tesla owners, there are several conditions to activate it.
These requirements include:
Cars must use AMD processors
Supported vehicle models: Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y, and Cybertruck
Using the software version of the vehicle 2025.26
Have a Premium Connectivity connection or connect to Wi-Fi
In other words, almost all of Tesla, which have been released since mid-2021, are likely to be compatible.
Once activated, users can interact with Grok in the car like using the X application on their cellphone. Users can easily access information without the need to touch other devices.
Grok provides a natural AI conversation experience and doesn’t just rely on rigid voice commands like the ones Google Assistant currently uses on Android Auto.
Although X is moving faster with Grok on Tesla, Google still has an advantage in its long-term plans. Gemini are predicted to be present on various car brands, reaching a wider market than Grok, which is currently only available on Tesla vehicles. There is no certainty whether Grok will be launched for cars from other brands.

In the future, Grok will likely gain the ability to directly control vehicle systems, such as regulating temperatures, navigating routes, or opening windows.
