Google is introducing new tools that allow users to transfer personal context and chat history from other pAI aps into its Gemini platform.
The update aims to make it easier for users to switch between AI assistants without starting from scratch.
The new feature allows users to import ‘memories,’ including preferences, relationships and other personal context previously shared with other AI tools. This could include details such as interests or basic personal information, enabling Gemini to respond with more relevant context from the start.
Users can access the feature through the settings menu, where they are guided to generate a summary of their data from another AI app and paste it into Gemini. The system then analyses and stores the information for future interactions.
In addition, the users will be able to import full chat histories by uploading files from other AI providers. This would allow them to continue past conversations within Gemini and search older threads.
The update also includes a change in terminology, with the existing ‘past chats’ feature being renamed to ‘memory’ in the coming weeks.
The tools are rolling out to consumer accounts where users must grant access for Gemini to use data from other services such as email, photos and search history.
