Facing a tough reelection campaign, Republican Rep. Mike Lawler went on Fox Business to join host Maria Bartiromo in a President Donald Trump ass-kissing session, where the two defended the Iran war by posing a convoluted question to a chatbot.
“‘How would the media report on World War II?’” Bartiromo said. “Here’s what I got from Chat GPT. You ready? ‘Leaders like Franklin D. Roosevelt would face nonstop scrutiny—not near unified messaging like in the 1940s. Social media would amplify dissent, leaks, and battlefield setbacks in real time, changing public support even faster.’ What? How many people, hundreds of thousands of people, died in World War II?”
Without asking a chatbot, one can tell Bartiromo that while estimates vary, WWII casualties were well into the tens of millions. Is she suggesting that we are now engaged in something on that scale?
Having failed to grab the public’s imagination with a war they insisted would only happen if former Vice President Kamala Harris were elected, the desperation to justify it is getting real sweaty. As the midterm outlook gets more and more uncertain for Republicans, GOP operatives are turning to chatbots to distract from their failures.
Ad revenue can't support Daily Kos operations—and it hasn't been able to for more than a decade. Digital ad revenue has declined everywhere, especially for news organizations for whom it was once their lifeblood. Companies are spending less money on ads, and Amazon, Facebook and Google are gobbling up an ever-greater share of what remains. This has left almost nothing for places like Daily Kos. The only reason we've been able to survive is because of the support of readers like you. That's why we're asking: Can you take one minute right now to donate $5 or more to Daily Kos? It would mean so much to us.
