EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The city of Eau Claire has an all-new website along with an AI-powered tool to help navigate it.
On the bottom right-hand corner, an AI chatbot says it can be your guide.
Eau Claire IT says the redesigns’ goal is to make the site more service orientated. A place where you can go to do things, not just get information.
“The chatbot had a big part of that, because just finding where you’re gonna go, it makes things a lot easier. You can just put in a question: ‘how do I pay my water bill?’ or ‘give me more information on downtown parking’ and it will pull up a paragraph for you. Give you a little more information, show you a link to go get more information,” said Bob Nelson, IT Director, City of Eau Claire.
Unlike many chatbots, Nelson says this one cannot access the internet. It will not be able to answer questions that require information from outside the website.
