ChatGPT Go is the premium version of OpenAI’s flagship AI chatbot, just below the Pro version
OpenAI on Tuesday announced it was offering ChatGPT Go, the premium version of its flagship AI chatbot just below the Pro version, for Indian users, completely free for a one-year period.
According to OpenAI, the limited-time promotional period for this offer begins on Tuesday (November 4), and was announced last week to celebrate OpenAI’s DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, the company had said earlier.

"The promotion is available now for redemption from ChatGPT web, or the Google Play store, and will be available to redeem next week from the Apple app store," OpenAI says on its website.
However, there is one catch: this offer is a free trial.
This is because if it were simply free to use for a year, all Indian users would be able to activate their ChatGPT Go without needing to enter any payment details.
However, this ChatGPT Go one-year promotional trial requires users to enter a payment method—such as credit/debit cards or UPI. This is done so that the payment of Rs 399 (the actual cost of the subscription) can be charged per month after the 12-month free trial period is over.
To avoid paying for it after the trial period is over, users can either switch off automatic renewal, or set a calendar reminder and cancel their subscription just before the free trial ends.
OpenAI also says that the promotion would be automatically applied for existing ChatGPT Go subscribers from the next billing cycle onwards, as long as they have no pending payments in their account.
For ChatGPT web
Sign up for ChatGPT if you are new, or login to your account if you already have one.
Click on ‘Try ChatGPT Go’ or go to Settings → Account → ‘Try ChatGPT Go’.
During checkout, add a payment method—no charges will be levied for a year.
Upon completion of checkout, your promotional subscription will be active, and renew automatically on a monthly basis for 12 months.
You can review the terms and conditions of the trial from Settings → Account anytime.
For Android users
Update or download the latest ChatGPT Android app.
Click ‘Upgrade to Go for Free’ when the option is presented. You can also tap the ‘Try Go’ pill from the home screen, or access from Settings → ‘Upgrade to Go for free’
Complete checkout and add a payment method. After this, the free trial will be active for 12 months, and will renew automatically on a monthly basis.
For iOS users
"The free trial will be available on the Apple app store next week. If you need it sooner, follow the steps above to redeem from ChatGPT web. After redeeming on web, you can login to your ChatGPT account on the iOS app and start using ChatGPT Go," OpenAI said.
