ChatGPT is down for a large number of users across the globe, with disruptions being reported from the United States, Europe, India, Japan, and Australia. Complaints have surged rapidly on DownDetector and X within a short window this afternoon.
Users say they are getting stuck on loading screens, being logged out mid-conversation, or finding that their older chats will not open at all. The disruption is not limited to the website either, as both free and paid ChatGPT users have run into similar login problems on the mobile app. Common complaints include failed logins, repeated authentication errors, chat history that refuses to load, sessions ending abruptly, and "service unavailable" messages appearing when a prompt is sent.
OpenAI's own status page confirms the scale of the problem. It currently displays a banner reading "We're currently experiencing issues." OpenAI has not yet shared a root cause or a timeline for a fix, and this report will be updated as more information becomes available.
Downdetector's breakdown showed ChatGPT itself accounted for around 80 percent of all reported problems, with app-related issues making up 8 percent and API issues at 6 percent. Users were also able to report problems under categories including login, Dall-E, Sora, Codex, and web browser access, pointing to a disruption that touched several parts of OpenAI's product suite rather than one isolated feature.
