OpenAI has confirmed an outage after thousands of users around the world reported problems accessing ChatGPT, with many unable to log in, submit prompts or view their chat history.
The disruption began within the last 40 minutes, with reports rapidly increasing on DownDetector from users in the United States, Europe, India, Japan, Australia and several other countries, News.Az reports, citing The Economic Times.
The outage has affected access to OpenAI’s AI chatbot, prompting widespread reports of login failures and service interruptions as the company works to resolve the issue.
“We are investigating the issue for the listed services,” the company said.

Users have reported a range of connectivity problems affecting both the ChatGPT website and mobile app. The issue appears to be impacting free and paid subscribers alike.
The most commonly reported problems include:
– Failed logins and authentication errors
– Chat history not loading
– Users being signed out unexpectedly
– “Service unavailable” messages when submitting prompts
– Conversations failing to load
– Many users have also taken to social media platform X to report being stuck on loading screens or being unable to access previous chats.
OpenAI’s status page lists the issue as being under investigation. During the outage, the status page has intermittently switched between showing an active incident and normal operations, something that can happen when authentication systems experience disruptions even if the core AI models remain operational.
The company has not yet disclosed the cause of the outage or provided an estimated timeline for restoration.
