Apple is apparently preparing a fundamental reorientation of Siri. According to recent reports from Bloomberg, the company is working on an AI-based chatbot, known internally as “Campos”, which is intended to replace the classic Siri interface. The aim is to make interaction much more natural and contextual – similar to OpenAI’s approach with ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini. The first functions are expected to become available with iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 at the end of 2027, while smaller updates will already be integrated into iOS 26.4.
The planned Campos chatbot marks a new phase in Apple’s artificial intelligence strategy. Unlike the previous Siri interface, Campos will not only respond to voice commands, but also enable context-based dialogs and take on more complex tasks. According to sources, Apple is also testing a standalone Campos app internally, but this will not be released for end users. Instead, the focus is on deep software integrations within Apple’s ecosystem. In this way, iPhone, iPad and Mac users should benefit from intelligent, coordinated functions.
The realignment is supported by Apple’s latest cooperation with Google: The Gemini models are intended to power the new Siri generation and close the gap with AI assistants from competitors. Gemini is already widely used in Google’s ecosystem and provides advanced AI functions. Apple thus benefits from a proven technology without overburdening its internal development. Campos could become significantly more powerful than the current version of Siri, particularly for complex queries and dialog-based tasks.
In addition to the fundamental transformation to an AI chatbot, the current Siri generation will also be updated. iOS 26.4 is set to include some long-awaited improvements, including more precise responses and better integration into existing apps. In the future, Campos will also form the basis for further Apple innovations, such as the possible introduction of an AI-based wearable (“AI Pin”) in 2027, which will make Siri functions directly wearable and open up new use cases.
Apple’s transition to an AI chatbot for Siri signals a long-term strategic realignment. Campos should make interaction more natural and powerful, be deeply integrated into iOS, iPadOS and macOS and catch up with ChatGPT and Gemini. An exact release date for the full implementation is not yet known, but the first functions are expected to appear in iOS 26.4, while full integration in iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 is expected at the end of 2027.
