The U.S. government’s new public-facing AI chatbot, America.gov, built in partnership with Google and SpaceXAI, has so far proved difficult for users to jailbreak, though it has revealed at least one unexpected quirk.
When users bring up Minecraft, the chatbot responds with a roughly 1,800-word monologue that can read like an existential awakening. Rather than a malfunction or hallucination, the response is a rewrite of the Minecraft End Poem by Julian Gough, which players see after beating the game. The adapted version swaps the original’s themes for references to government bureaucracy, including filings, case numbers, office hours and federal regulations.
It is unclear who added the reference, but President Donald Trump said in a speech that 20-year-old programmer Edward Coristine, known for his involvement in Elon Musk’s DOGE, was a lead engineer on the project.
A reviewer at TechCrunch said the poem was surprisingly good and that it was reassuring to find it rooted in a human writer’s work rather than generated as AI slop. The outlet also noted that the chatbot states Joe Biden won the 2020 election, a result Trump continues to dispute.
