France enters the match coming off a convincing 2-0 victory over Morocco. Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé each scored while Les Bleus held the Atlas Lions to just one shot on goal.
Meanwhile, Spain is coming off a 2-1 victory over Belgium during which Mikel Merino scored in the 88th minute to put La Roja through to the semifinal.

USA TODAY asked AI chatbot Microsoft Copilot to predict the outcome of this marquee World Cup matchup.

Here’s a breakdown of Copilot’s prediction for the World Cup semifinal, along with a brief, human-crafted analysis of the chatbot’s pick.
AI’s take: Copilot expects Tuesday’s World Cup match to be a strength-on-strength battle. It praised Spain for being “outstanding defensively” but opined France would have an edge over its European counterpart because of its “combination of pace, finishing and tournament experience.”
The chatbot also praised Mbappé for the “exceptional” form he has displayed during the tournament and noted that France’s “deeper attacking options” would give Les Bleus the offensive advantage in this matchup.
Our take: Copilot’s choice is logical. France has been an offensive juggernaut during the tournament and have only once failed to score multiple goals. That came against a Paraguay team whose main goal was to sit behind the ball and take away French opportunities.
Spain seems unlikely to take a similar approach to Paraguay. Instead, La Roja will likely stick with the defensive plan that has worked well for them during the World Cup. Even so, such a strategy is a gamble, as France has better attacking depth than most of Spain’s opponents to date.
As such, it’s fair to assume France will once again net multiple goals. Will Spain have enough firepower offensively to keep pace with Didier Deschamps’ side?
