At least eight states are suing artificial intelligence giant OpenAI, saying the company’s popular chatbot model violated state consumer protection laws by hurting children and deceiving adults in what prosecutors described as a reckless pursuit of profit.
The company’s chatbot model, ChatGPT, is giving dangerous medical advice, encouraging paranoia and coaching people to kill themselves or hurt or kill others, the lawsuits said.
The states that filed separate lawsuits Wednesday in state courts are Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska and West Virginia.
Power Forward, the non-profit organization founded by former Stanley Cup champion Kevin Stevens, announced the election of Richard C. Walsh, president and chief executive officer of construction management firm Walsh Brothers, to its Board of Directors.
Walsh will help guide the non-profit’s mission to support those recovering from substance addiction through such initiatives as secure, sober housing, a service dog ownership program based on evidence that the pets encourage stability and responsibility in many patients, and a first-of-its-kind app to track and manage resources available to recovering substance abusers.
Power Forward recently raised more than $800,000 through its annual gala to support its recovery programs. The non-profit was founded by former NHLer Kevin Stevens, a Brockton native who won two Stanley Cups as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins and later spent time with the Boston Bruins.
