The tradeoff is one of trust and moderation. Content on X ranges from verified news accounts to anonymous posters with no editorial process behind them, and Grok inherits whatever biases and inaccuracies live on the platform it is reading from. That is a fundamentally different risk profile than DeepSeek or Meta AI, which lean more heavily on static training data and are less likely to repeat something posted five minutes ago that turns out to be false. For a user who wants a fast read on unfolding events, that live connection is exactly the point. For a user who wants a considered, source-checked answer, it can work against Grok rather than for it.
No other assistant on this list gets distributed the way Meta AI does. None of this requires an account setup beyond the Meta account a person already has, which is precisely why the feature reached 1 billion monthly users faster than any standalone AI app has managed.
DeepSeek shows up in two very different contexts. Casual users open the free chat app or web interface for the same kinds of questions people ask ChatGPT, from drafting an email to explaining a concept for a school project. Developers and businesses use it differently again, pulling DeepSeek V4 Pro or V4 Flash through the API for coding and reasoning tasks at a fraction of the cost of Western alternatives, or downloading the open-weight model entirely to run on their own infrastructure.
