Busan Port unveils AI chatbot for construction operations – Splash247

The Busan Port Authority is rolling out what it says is the first generative AI-based construction administration system in Korea’s port sector as part of a broader digital transformation drive.
The authority said it has completed development of “BPA GPT”, a generative AI chatbot designed specifically for port construction operations, with full deployment scheduled for June.
The closed AI system has been developed with enhanced cybersecurity protections reflecting the sensitive status of port infrastructure as a national security facility. Port operators have traditionally faced restrictions on adopting generative AI because of concerns over internal data leaks and exposure to external networks.
According to BPA, the new platform operates within a closed environment separated from outside systems while using reinforced data security protocols.
The chatbot allows staff to ask questions in natural language and receive real-time summaries of laws, operational standards, guidelines and internal regulations relevant to port construction activities.
BPA said the system is designed to reduce the administrative burden on employees who previously had to manually search through extensive documentation.
“Introducing an AI chatbot to port construction administrative work is the starting point of a digital administrative transformation that simultaneously addresses the two challenges of security and innovation,” said BPA president Song Sang-keun.
“We will continue to lead a data-driven smart work culture through ongoing system upgrades,” he added.
The authority plans to initially deploy the system among technical staff before expanding and refining functions based on operational feedback and accumulated workplace data.
The move highlights growing interest across the maritime sector in applying artificial intelligence to infrastructure management, administration and operational decision-making while maintaining strict cybersecurity and data protection standards.
