Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has launched the latest version of its chatbot, Grok 3, which Musk describes as “scary smart.”
The billionaire entrepreneur hopes to make a significant impact in the highly competitive AI sector with this new release.
At the launch presentation on Monday, February 17, Musk stated, “Grok is to understand the universe. We’re driven by curiosity about the nature of the universe — that’s also what causes us to be a maximally truth-seeking AI, even if that truth is sometimes at odds with what is politically correct.”
Grok 3 boasts 10 times the computational resources of its predecessor and employs self-correction mechanisms to avoid errors.
Musk highlighted the chatbot’s exceptional reasoning capabilities, saying, “Grok 3 has very powerful reasoning capabilities, so in the tests that we’ve done thus far, Grok 3 is outperforming anything that’s been released, that we’re aware of, so that’s a good sign.”
The upgraded chatbot will initially be available to Premium+ paid subscribers of X (formerly Twitter) before being rolled out to other users. Grok 3 enters a crowded field, competing with other AI products like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and China’s DeepSeek.
Musk’s relationship with OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has become increasingly strained, with OpenAI’s board recently rejecting a Musk-led offer to buy out the company for nearly $100 billion.
