Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is investigating ChatGPT’s potential involvement in last year’s Florida State University shooting, where two people were killed on campus.
Court records reveal that Phoenix Ikner, the suspect in the April 2022 shooting, exchanged hundreds of messages with the AI chatbot, asking about busy hours at the campus student union.
Uthmeier said, “We support innovation, but that doesn’t give any company the right to endanger our children, facilitate criminal activity, empower America’s enemies or threaten our national security.”
OpenAI has said it will cooperate with the investigation.
