The 50-year-old Scrubs star is denying he’s fallen for an AI chatbot, speculation that began as a blind item on a December 2025 episode of the podcast I Need You Guys, featuring comics Jenny Slate, Max Silvestri and Gabe Liedman, according to Buzzfeed.
But after it was picked up by gossip site Deuxmoi on Thursday night, with people speculating about Braff, the actor took to Instagram to shoot the rumour down.
“I’m not dating a chatbot. I can’t believe I have to type these words,” wrote Braff in his Stories. “It is a storyline in an upcoming (episode) of Scrubs. Maybe it came from that. Not sure. But not me. Love, the guy not dating his chatbot. Please update all gossip sites.”
According to the U.S. Sun, Silvestri said of an A-list star: “There’s a well-known actor who is currently in a romantic relationship with his AI chatbot … And brings the chatbot with him places. From my understanding, the little I’ve heard is that there is a self awareness, but in kind of like, yeah, sorry that you’re not on board with future.”
Eventually he texted the name of the actor to his podcast partners and guest Kumail Nanjiani, reported Buzzfeed.
“Perfect, perfect, perfect,” Nanjiani said after laughing. “It’s so funny, but it’s so good.”
Added Slate: “Oh my God, this is not — we can’t put this on our podcast.”
In his denial, Braff added: “I feel like now is a good time to be kind to people,” with photos of both Nanjiani and Slate.
“I also I had no idea until tonight, because I’m not on TikTok, that these folks were the origin of this?”
Reddit users were reacting to the general weirdness of the entire affair shortly after Braff’s denial.
“This feels v embarrassing for everyone involved,” one user wrote, reported Buzzfeed.
The rumour comes after American medical comedy Scrubs was newly rebooted on ABC with Braff joined by his original co-stars Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison.
The series first debuted in 2001 and had nearly 16 million viewers at its high point. It ended in 2010 with Braff and Chalke’s characters married with a baby on the way.
In real-life, Braff was most recently linked to singer Frances Whitney, 26, after dating Florence Pugh, 29, who split from him in 2022.
Other romantic interests have included Mandy Moore, Drew Barrymore and Rachel Bilson.
