Google is introducing “Ask Maps,” a new AI-powered chatbot inside Google Maps that lets users ask complex navigation and location questions. The feature uses Gemini to provide conversational answers beyond standard directions.
Users can ask questions like where to charge a dying phone without waiting in a café line, or find a public tennis court with lights for evening play. Results are personalized based on previous searches and saved trips, helping users quickly turn plans into action.
The feature is part of Google’s broader push to integrate Gemini across its products and keep users engaged within its ecosystem. With over 2 billion monthly users, Google Maps remains the world’s most widely used navigation app.
“Ask Maps” begins rolling out in the U.S. and India on Android and iOS, with desktop support coming soon. While the feature currently has no ads, Google hasn’t ruled out adding them later. The company mainly earns revenue from Maps through advertising, promoted business listings, and licensing its mapping APIs and location data.
When they Tweet, their Tweets will show up here.
