Elon Musk has taken a dig at Anthropic‘s AI chatbot, Claude, calling it “woke” and mocking the company’s logo. The remarks were made in response to an X post questioning the outputs of Anthropic’s model. The post had garnered more than 9.7 million views and thousands of replies, reposts, and likes at the time of writing.
AI bias
Musk’s comment came after an X user, Taya (@travelingflying), claimed that Claude responded differently to queries about two public figures. The user said Claude gave a negative description of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk while praising George Floyd. They concluded their post by calling the AI model “woke.” Musk quoted this post and added his own remark about the chatbot and the company’s logo.
AI safety
Anthropic’s Claude is one of the many large language model-based AI assistants in competition with those from OpenAI, Google, and Musk’s own company xAI. The chatbot is designed to generate text, answer questions, and assist users with tasks like coding, research, and writing. Anthropic has said that Claude uses techniques to steer how the model handles sensitive or controversial topics.

Industry debate
The issue of bias and ideological leanings in AI models has become a common concern in the industry. Critics argue that training data and design choices can influence how models respond to political or social issues. Musk has previously criticized other AI systems for alleged political bias, further fueling this ongoing debate about the behavior, design, and perceived bias of modern AI systems.
