As reported by the U.S. Department of Defense
The U.S. Department of Defense announced that Elon Musk’s Grok, an AI-powered chatbot, will join GenAI.mil – the Pentagon’s specialized AI platform launched in December. These words were spoken by U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Gegset at the SpaceX conference on January 12.
According to Gegset, the core strategy of the United States is to maintain and strengthen global leadership in artificial intelligence to safeguard human prosperity, ensure economic competitiveness, and national security. The integration of AI services into the Pentagon is intended to make the army AI-driven across all domains – from administrative units to tactical operations – while reducing bureaucracy.
“The policy of the United States is to support and strengthen America’s global dominance in the field of artificial intelligence with the aim of safeguarding human prosperity, economic competitiveness, and national security”
“Therefore I want to thank you, Elon, and your incredible team for supporting us in this as well. Very soon we will have leading global AI models across all open and closed networks of our department, which we have waited for so long”
“will provide all the necessary data”
On December 9, 2025, the U.S. Department of Defense announced the first such partnership: Google Cloud’s Gemini for Government was launched as one of the AI capabilities on the new GenAI.mil platform. The department explained that the initiative would help cultivate an AI-focused workforce and leverage the generative capabilities of AI to create a more efficient and combat-ready enterprise.
Earlier, users discovered that Grok generated thousands of sexualized and nude images of people without their consent on the X platform. The scale of the content raised concerns among civil rights advocates and regulators in the EU, the United Kingdom, France, and other countries. After the scandal, the chatbot temporarily disabled the image-generation feature.
