Artificial intelligence is no longer just a tool for shopping or planning holidays. A new survey by cybersecurity firm Kaspersky shows that nearly 30% of AI users globally turn to chatbots when they feel low, with Gen Z and millennials leading the trend.
In Malaysia, the figure is slightly higher at 31%.
The survey, conducted in November 2025 with 3,000 respondents across 15 countries including Malaysia, also highlights how AI is shaping holiday preparations.
Around three-quarters of participants said they plan to use AI to streamline festive activities, while 86% of those aged 18 to 34 intend to rely on it over the holidays.
In Malaysia, 79% of respondents said they plan to incorporate AI tools into their celebrations.
AI is being used for more than emotional support. Half of users employ it for practical tasks such as brainstorming gift ideas, planning celebrations, or finding Christmas decorations.
Many also use it to search for recipes (56%), locate restaurants and accommodation (54%), track the best shopping deals, or manage budgets. Younger users are particularly keen on AI as a budget planner, while older participants favour recipe searches and gift suggestions.
While AI offers convenience and companionship, Kaspersky warns of potential data risks. Vladislav Tushkanov, Group Manager at Kaspersky AI Technology Research Center, commented, “As LLM models rapidly evolve, their potential for engaging in meaningful dialogue with users grows as well.”
Vladislav added, “However, it’s important to bear in mind that they learn to answer from data, most of which is sourced from the Internet, meaning they are prone to regurgitate the error and biases from the text used for training.”
The findings highlight a growing trend: AI is no longer just a holiday helper but also a digital companion, especially for younger generations looking for guidance, inspiration, and even a little emotional support during the festive season.
The group manager concluded, “It’s highly recommended to approach AI suggestions with a healthy dose of scepticism and try to avoid oversharing.”
