“The new image generation model in ChatGPT more accurately aligns with your intentions, altering only what you request while preserving various elements like lighting, composition, and the appearance of people,” stated the company’s X account.
The tool is available in the chatbot application for all users through a separate “Images” window on the sidebar.
“New viewing and editing screens simplify the creation of images that match your vision,” noted OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, Fidji Simo.
The release of GPT Image 1.5 marks another step by Sam Altman following the declaration of a “code red” due to increasing competition from Google with its flagship solutions Gemini 3 and Nano Banana Pro.
According to TechCrunch, OpenAI had planned to release the new image generator in early January, but the launch was expedited.
Simo noted that ChatGPT’s functionality has been enhanced with additional visual elements, making responses to search queries more interactive.
“If visual elements tell a story better than words alone, the chatbot should include them,” wrote the top executive.
Alongside product line development, OpenAI continues to attract investments. According to The Information, the company is in talks with Amazon regarding a new deal and the use of AI chips.
The sum could exceed $10 billion, though the details of the agreement have yet to be finalized.
Discussions began following the restructuring of OpenAI’s corporate structure, which granted the company more freedom to attract capital and collaborate.
Amazon has invested at least $8 billion in the rival startup Anthropic. The corporation has been developing its own AI chips since 2015.
In recent months, OpenAI has committed to building AI infrastructure worth over $1.4 trillion. However, the startup’s financial position may be precarious, as indicated by a recent document leak.
OpenAI has hired former UK Treasury head George Osborne to collaborate with governments on AI infrastructure development.
we increasingly hear from countries wanting to understand how AI fits into their economic strategy and ability to serve citizens in domains like healthcare, education, and more
we are thrilled to welcome @George_Osborne as our Head of OpenAI for Countries to lead our work… https://t.co/2dhSCZ9JjV

The hiring is part of the ChatGPT developer’s initiative to collaborate with national governments and localize its products. It is based on the Stargate project.
In December, OpenAI introduced the GPT-5.2 model lineup.
