Whether you’re a business owner, developer, or simply intrigued by the future of interactive technology, join us on this journey to unravel the transformative power and endless possibilities of AI chatbots.
AI chatbots are great for casual conversation, but serious, complex work needs careful prompting and verification, which can be overwhelming. To make things easier, I use AI to prepare prompts, check answers, and steer chatbots toward accurate results. Here are the ways I get faster, better output from AI chatbots, by using AI.
AI chatbots can be biased, make factual errors, hallucinate information, and omit key information. However, they don’t do this because of incomplete data or an error in logic. Usually, it happens due to secondary factors like AI personalization, previous context, or token system limits.
Many of these problems can be solved by asking the chatbot to audit the answer in a new chat window and instructing it to thoroughly check it. While you can do this using the same chatbot, I get the best results when using a different chatbot for auditing that was trained on different data sets. For example, I ask ChatGPT to audit Gemini answers and vice versa.
All you have to do is provide the original question and answer (copy/paste) to the chatbot in a new chat and ask it to check for factual errors or missing information. It’s also best to keep Thinking mode enabled to ensure AI does a deep search. To help you quickly audit, below is an AI-generated prompt (more on it later) to audit AI chatbot answers:
Act as a fact-checker: with the ORIGINAL QUESTION and ORIGINAL ANSWER below, verify all factual claims and key details, flag errors/omissions, give corrections or missing points, and output a one-line confidence score (0–100).
Just paste this prompt and your question/answer in a new chat, and the AI will audit the answer for you. Of course, AI isn’t perfect, so it can make mistakes even while auditing. So make sure you check the answer yourself and ask for sources for suspicious facts.
For complex queries – like creating a product marketing plan – directly asking the query forces the model to guess structure, scope, priorities, etc., which leads to vague answers. To ensure the AI provides a precise answer to your query, you can first ask it a principal question regarding the topic, and then ask the actual question.
This helps the AI chatbot fully focus on creating an outline without worrying about details. When you ask the real question, it will fully focus on applying the laid-out plan to the question. So basically, you use the AI to abstract a detailed plan and then use the AI-generated plan to bring the idea to life.
For example, you can first ask it, “explain in detail the Unique Selling Propositions,” and then ask it, “Based on the information provided, create a flyer for my business: I am a mobile dog groomer who comes to the client’s driveway“.
This trick isn’t just limited to text answers; I often use it for image generation by letting AI brainstorm the ideas that best fit my needs and then asking it to generate an image based on the ideas. Formatting the idea beforehand also helps add or omit details in the original answer.
Whether you look at prompt engineering courses or ask experts, a common advice is to provide a detailed prompt with a complete context to AI for the best results. This usually involves assigning a role/persona to AI, specifying goals, defining context and constraints, listing output format, and providing examples.
While this leads to the best results, I, for one, neither have time nor expertise on every topic at hand to write such lengthy prompts. So what I do instead is use AI to generate a detailed prompt for the AI chatbot.
I prefer using dedicated AI prompt generator tools for this purpose, as I just need to provide a topic to get perfect prompts. However, if you want to use a regular AI chatbot to generate the prompt, below is a prompt template you can use:
You are an expert prompt engineer. Analyze my topic—[INSERT TOPIC HERE]—and generate a perfect, detailed prompt template that includes a specific role, defined constraints, and the desired output format, ensuring maximum result quality.
These tricks will help you save tons of time when using AI chatbots and greatly enhance your results. Of course, this also means you are relying more and more on AI; if you are concerned about privacy, you can always prevent AI from training on your data.
