In India, Google is now introducing its AI Mode function in Search, which enables users to conduct more intricate and in-depth searches. The internet giant claims that users have been enjoying the new feature’s “speed, quality, and fresh responses” since it was introduced earlier this year as an experiment in the US.
In response to the encouraging comments, Google Labs now offers AI Mode in English. The business claims in a blog post that the new feature allows users to ask “longer, more complex and nuanced questions” that would otherwise require repeated searches by using a customized version of Gemini 2.5.
With Google’s new AI Mode feature, Google searches will now feel more conversational and chatbot-like. You can ask complicated, multi-part queries and get AI-generated answers that are collected from the internet if you permit it on your profile.
The functionality makes advantage of Google’s Gemini model, which allows multimodal inputs like text, graphics, and voice, and has improved reasoning capabilities.
You can ask specific questions, such as how to compare items or plan a trip, and receive thoughtful responses that combine data from several internet sources. Additionally, the function allows follow-up queries, much like a chatbot, making your search experience more personalized and interactive.

For instance, suppose you enter in the question, “How can I increase my IQ?” into Google Search. When you select AI Mode, the AI chatbot will respond (along with a few sources on the sidebar that you can click into).
You may have a follow-up query about the first search you conducted. AI Mode will adjust the AI search results to match your follow-up response based on the context of the prior search.
Within Search, AI Mode employs Google’s Gemini model to construct a comprehensive, conversational response rather than merely delivering a list of links. As with any other AI chatbot, you can converse back with it if you don’t like the first response. It’s similar to conversing with an intelligent friend who conveniently has access to the entire internet.
In summary, Gemini is the AI Mode that is primarily used for search. It’s a part of a larger effort to integrate Google’s AI capabilities into the everyday products you use in ways that are easy to use rather than complicated. Furthermore, AI Mode is just getting started; Google intends to add other features, such as Deep Research, soon.
